We stayed at Villa Margherita from 21/8 to 4/9 and had a wonderful holiday with our 6 and 3 year old daughters. Specifically ;

* Location : 10minutes either way to both Spello and Assisi, both of which offer magical architecture, wonderful Cathedrals/Basilica and great restaurants - Tripadvisor was our trusty guide for this !
* Appliances : The Cooking facilities are a Chef's dream, with top of the range Miele appliances and the amazing pizza oven where you can cook your own wood fired pizzas - there's nothing better. Also a dishwasher was a bonus and this was used every day.
* Wi-Fi : We did not realise the Villa had Wi-Fi and this was fantastic as we could skype friends and family and search out the next tourist gem in Umbria !
* Garden : Great pool which our daughters loved and a nice herb garden with Rosemary, Sage, Chives, Thyme and Basil all at your disposal.
* At the end of the day : The sunsets down the valley towards Assisi were magical during our stay and the wonderful night-time lighting really added to the romance of being in Italy and enjoying good food and wine.

A sensational holiday, in a wonderful villa. Highly recommended, it was just perfect !

Our visit to Umbria brought us to Villa Margherita from March 12-March 26, 2011.
What a find! We truly enjoyed the villa; the website, as good as it is, can only give a snapshot of its magnificent location. The owner was available, kind and helpful. Jessica, the "greeter”, was extraordinary; she was prepared for us and was available for any and every question. Jessica's professionalism and positive attitude made our stay at the villa that much more enjoyable, making the whole experience comfortable and worry free.

Though we did not get a chance to try the outdoor pizza oven (hopefully next time), we did make use of the gourmet kitchen, experimenting with local pasta, pork and produce. We shopped easily, and often, in the nearby supermercato and panetteria. There is also an outside barbeque oven to accommodate Italian style barbequing over hot coals. The villa is immaculate and fully equipped. The pool had not yet been opened for the season but that did not stop us fromsitting poolside in very comfortable lounge chairs and enjoying the view of the olive groves and Umbrian valley, accompanied always by the melodious song of birds. Since there were four of us, we used only the two very spacious upstairs bedrooms with en-suite baths, including a walk in shower; oh, the comforts Americans enjoy! There is a large pull out couch in the living room area, which if used, also has access to a full downstairs bathroom. We enjoyed a fire every night and learned to turn expresso into a morning cup of coffee.

The villa is on Mt. Sabasio, only a short drive along a country road to Assisi. We, of course spent several days in Assisi and the surrounding area including Mass at the Basilica of San Francesco; visits to San Damiano and Santa Maria degli Angelia and a stop at the shrine of Saint Francis and the birds as we traveled from Cannara to Bevagna. We were blessed to share in the festivities of San Giuseppe (March 19-20), including the pastries and white beans distributed after mass in the church just below the villa. The church also put on an amazing pyrotechnic display, which we enjoyed from the villa terrace, on both Saturday and Sunday nights to honor the Feast Day! We drove up many windy (and sometimes scary) roads; walked many hills; ate wild boar and truffles; tasted red wines in the wineries of Montefalco and Classico in Orvieto; celebrated the 150th year of Italian independence in Perugia; explored the midieval town of Gubbio; enjoyed Lake Trasimeno in the rain; visited Speleto and its Roman ruins; climbed the streets of Spello several evenings to enjoy traditional Umbrian cuisine. Just before departing, we took the train from Foligno to Rome for an overnight visit, again with Jessica’s expert help. All trips were relatively easy, though be aware, the Umbrian hill towns will take you longer to get to than you anticipate. But that is okay; it is all part of the adventure of discovering Umbria!

The location of the villa offers something for everyone with the added benefit of many opportunities to walk/hike right out of the front gate. A visit to Villa Margherita is truly good for the body and the soul.

One of the best holidays ever!
Just 2 weeks before we flew to Italy I saw this beautiful, unique villa on Homeaway.com. I got a quick and kind reaction by mail from the owner that the house was available. How lucky! In reality the villa was even more beautiful and comfortable than we hoped for. Not forgetting the marvelous view! We immediately felt at home. During our holidays we like privacy and relaxing at the pool with a book or magazine but on the other hand visiting interesting places like Spello, Assisi, Perugia and Spoleto (all near this villa). We daily used the ovens for making homemade pizza's or bbq-ing. The kids loved to help in between their 'swimming fun'. But we also enjoyed the real Umbrian 'cuisine' in restaurants, osteria's or agriturismi in the environment. In short this house on this perfect point in Umbria offers so many possibilities and guarantees a perfect holiday!
